The Building Department of Redding issues permits for all new construction, alterations, remodeling, additions, renovations, temporary structures, decks, storage buildings, and some repairs. Redding is regulated by State codes officially known as the “Connecticut State Building Codes”. Most permits noted above are issued after approvals from Planning, Zoning, Conservation, and Health Departments.
Today’s Building Department operates under State Building Codes, established by law in 1972, which superceded any and all local town building ordinances. The “State of Connecticut Building Code” is amended and updated by State legislation as requested by the State Building Department. The current State Building Code was updated and adopted into law in December 2005 and again updated for August 2009.
