We have received numerous inquiries from taxpayers regarding prepayment of 2018 taxes.
Taxes that are due in January, 2018, can be paid now, December, 2017. In accordance with Connecticut State Statute, we only have the authority to accept the January, 2018 installment due, as a prepayment. State Statute does not allow the municipality to collect taxes that will not become due until July, 2018.
The Redding Tax Office abides by the U. S. Post Office postmark date. If your taxes are mailed and postmarked by December 31, 2017, with a U. S. postmark, they are considered to be paid in 2017, and will be posted as such. Taxes can also be paid online, with the necessary fee, and the date payment is made will be honored as the posting date. The Redding Town Hall is closed on Fridays.
The Office of the Tax Collector is responsible for the billing and collection of property taxes, including Real Estate, Motor Vehicle and Business Personal Property, which accounts for roughly 95% of the Town’s operating budget.
We take great pride in the efficiency with which tax matters are handled. This office is responsible for thorough accounting of all records and funds administered. We pride ourselves on upholding high standards of ethical conduct and always operate in accordance with the General Statutes of Connecticut and local Town ordinances.
The Office of the Tax Collector also oversees the billing and collection of sewer usage charges on the 77 parcels of property connected to the Georgetown Sewer System. Meter readings are provided by Aquarion Water Company and Veolia Water North America and usage charges are then calculated by Tax Office personnel on a quarterly basis.
Tax bills for the upcoming fiscal year are mailed the last week of June in the current fiscal year. Tax bills contain the July and January payment stubs.
1st half payment is due July 1,2017. Last day to pay without penalty is August 1, 2017. 2nd half payment is due January 1, 2018. Last day to pay without penalty February 1, 2018.
