Board of Finance
The Board of Finance oversees the financial operation of the government of Redding. It recommends the budget to the Town Meeting, sets the mill rate for property taxation, approves all appropriations, arranges for the annual audit, and publishes the Town Report.
Members of the Board of Finance are elected Town officials. Vacancies are filled by a majority vote of the members of the Board.
Regular meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.
Annual Budget Town Meeting
The Annual Budget Town Meeting is held on the fourth Thursday in April. By March 1, the Redding Board of Education and the Selectmen must submit their operating budgets to the Board of Finance, which may request modification. The Board must hold a public hearing at least two weeks prior to the Town Meeting. It then finalizes the combined budget and submits it to the Meeting. Only the Town Meeting can take final action on the budget. It may not appropriate any monies not recommended by the Board of Finance.

Combined Budget
The combined budget includes:
- The Selectmen’s budget
- The Redding Board of Education operating budget
- A capital account
- Debt service on bond issues previously approved by the Town Meeting
- Redding’s share of the Region 9 budget

Redding Board of Education
The Redding Board of Education serves Redding Elementary School and John Read Middle School. The Board reviews, amends, and approves the operating budget of the Redding system (K-8) for recommendation to the Board of Finance (link) at least 60 days prior to the Town’s Annual Budget Meeting. The Board of Finance may request a revision of the total dollar figure, but specific line-item distribution remains the responsibility of the Board of Education. The Redding schools budget becomes part of the annual Town budgetary process once the Board of Finance accepts it.
Members of the Redding Board of Education are elected Town officials.
