Town Clerk’s Office

The Town Clerk keeps all of the Town’s records, including agendas and minutes of meetings. She records all deeds, mortgages and other instruments affecting property, including maps and transfers. The Clerk acts as Registrar of Vital Statistics and Custodian of the Seal of Redding. She retains on file all Town ordinances and copies of the Connecticut General Statutes. She prepares ballots, accepts filings of candidates for election and records all votes. The Town Clerk serves as the Clerk of the Town Meeting.    The Town Clerk’s office is a great source of historical information about Redding. In addition to researching land records, you can pick up a copy of the Town’s Annual Report or purchase historical volumes such as Daniel Cruson’s Images of America: Redding and Easton.

The Town Clerk acts as Custodian of the Seal of Redding when she applies the seal to all official documents pertaining to the Town.

Absentee Ballots
Absentee Ballots for all referendums, primaries and elections are issued by the Town Clerk’s Office.  Click here for information on applying for an absentee ballot.

Land Records
All property transfers, mortgages, assignments, liens, releases, maps, etc. are recorded and maintained by the Town Clerk.  Indexes and images dating back to January 1, 1969 are currently available online at searchiqs.com.   Guest users can view index information and images (if available) only at no charge.  Images can be printed for $1.50 per page. Trade names are viewable from January 1, 2006 to the current date.

Fraud Alert Service
Property owners can sign up for notifications when anything is recorded under their name(s).  Please remember that there may be other property owners in town that have the same name.   Here’s how to sign up:

  1. Go to https://searchiqs.com/fraudalert?CC=CTRED and enter your email and names to be alerted on (up to 3).
  2. Check your email and click the link confirming your sign-up.
  3. You will then receive email alerts for any documents that are recorded in the future.

 

 

 

Trade Name Certificates
To file a Trade Name Certificate, complete the form (click here), sign in the presence of a Notary, and bring or mail to the Town Clerk’s office.  The fee to file a Trade Name Certificate is $13.00 and includes a certified copy.  Notarization is also available for an additional $5.00.

 

Registrar of Vital Statistics
The Town Clerk acts as Registrar of Vital Statistics when she issues marriage licenses and records all records of births, marriages and deaths. To obtain a certified copy of birth, marriage or death, click here for complete information.

 

Notary Public
Notary services are available in the Town Clerk’s office during office hours. The fee is $5.00 per document. Please note:  We cannot notarize wills or trusts.

 

Dog Licenses
Per CT General Statute Sec.22-338, all dogs over the age of 6 months must be licensed by the Town Clerk annually on or before June 30th. The license is valid from July 1st through June 30th. Licenses will not be issued without proof of current rabies vaccination. Click here for more information and Dog License Application.
