Chairman Alvarez called the meeting on May 5, 2015 to order at 8:09 pm in the Redding Community Center.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion: move to approve the minutes of the April 27, 2015 meeting as submitted. Yonkers, Mazzucco. Approved. Unanimous.
REFERENDUM RESULTS
The results of the referendum were announced. With the exception of the question on the Turf Project and Pavilion Project, all items on the ballot were approved, including the Town & Education budget, Region 9 budget and Redding Board of Education capital requests.
DISCUSSION OF 2015-16 BUDGET AND DRAFT MILL RATE SCHEDULE
The draft Mill Rate Schedule was reviewed. Several adjustments were made to the schedule, including:
- Board of Education, 2014-15 $200,000 surplus in operating budget
- Tax collection, 2014-15, over budget by $385,000
- Budget expenditures, 2014-15, ($180,000)
- Medical insurance savings 2015-16, $145,000
- Unassigned fund balance, $40,000
Board members discussed keeping the mill rate at the same amount as the current fiscal year.
Motion: move that the Redding Board of Finance set a mill rate for Fiscal Year 2015-16 at 28.910, based on the adjustments discussed, totaling $590,000 which reduced net expenditures. Mazzucco, Clark. Approved. Unanimous.
