Discussion and Possible Action:
Identifying School Systems for Comparative Analysis:
Data presented included comparisons to neighboring DRG-A systems as well as Bethel, Fairfield, Newtown, Region 15 (Middlebury, Southbury), Region 4 (Chester, Deep River, Essex), Region 14 (Bethlehem, Woodbury) and Region 18 (Lyme, Old Lyme). The BoF members asked which districts the BoE compares themselves to.
Concrete comparative points shared (Redding vs. DRG-A and other comparable districts):
• number of teachers and number of para-educators
• cost of Special Education
• seniority of staff
• aggregate spending
• average class sizes – statewide in 2014-15
Discussion and Possible Action:
Setting BoF Expectations for BoE Reports:
Information sharing has improved because BoF members are included on BoE monthly reports, and the importance of year-round consistency was noted. The BoF requested monthly updates be available for the BoF meetings.
Public comment:
Dana Grey commented on the RES boiler issue.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:07 a.m.
