Anda Cumings reads the minutes of October 19th. Sherry Karraker motions to accept the minutes of the meeting of October 19, 2017 as posted. Seconded by Ray D’Angelo, all vote in favor. Ray D’Angelo reseats Matt Lecher for the remainder of the meeting.
II. Demolition Application 50 Portland Ave. Georgetown, owner Joe Nazzaro. The house at this site was built in 1927. It is not listed on the Connecticut State Register of Historic Places, nor is it listed in Stuart Reeve’s inventory of Redding historic buildings. Committee members Jean Taylor and Anda Cumings say that they do not see historical significance to the house. Historian Charley Couch describes the structure as an old arts and crafts style post war structure. Per Charley, not many examples of this type of house exist in Redding, and it is not without a degree of architectural significance. It is in very bad shape today, possibly a case of demolition by neglect. It also does not contribute to the Georgetown streetscape in its location. Despite these factors, Charley expresses an interest in photo-documenting the house before it is demolished. Committee members do not think the house has historical significance, but appreciate Charley’s interest in the structure. Matt Lecher motions that due to the poor condition of the house and its minimal historical significance, the structure at 50 Portland Avenue is not to be subjected to the Demolition Delay Ordinance. Should historian Charley Couch wish to document the house he may make those arrangements with the property owner and complete his work so that it does not impede the owner’s demolition schedule. Anda Cumings seconds the motion. Motion passes unanimously. Ray D’Angelo will contact the owner.
III. General discussion. Matt Lecher motions to change the regular meeting time to start at 7PM. Anda Cumings seconds. Motion passes unanimously. Anda Cumings is to submit a new calendar to the Town.
