Minutes of Park and Recreation Commission, 03/01/2021

AGENDA: Park and Recreation Commission

RECEIVED 03/02/2021 8:30am
Kathleen R. Miserendino - Redding Deputy Town Clerk

Park and Recreation Commission
March 1, 2021 via Zoom
Meeting Minutes

Present: Kevin Jones (Chair), Pete Graziano, Lorcan O’Connor, Mitch Edwards

CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Jones called the meeting to order at 7:31 pm.

REVIEW OF DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Mr. Blick reviewed his report:

–         We are actively trying to get a few programs going now that infection rates are lower.  Pickleball was started 2/11, then the gym was needed for vaccinations and the floor covering has made programming in the gym a challenge.

–         The ice rink is done for the season.  Despite opening it late, we had 17 full days of use, more than in any other year.  The fire department has said they will help is next year by spraying the surface periodically, which will greatly enhance the ability to keep the surface usable and easier for us to maintain.

–         As we plan our summer camp, we are requesting the use of the school for 7 weeks beginning 6/28.

–         A policy of leashing dogs in any town open space has been put in place by the town, but, as it stands right now, will not affect our leach policy at Topstone Park.

–         The Concert on the Green lineup has been announced (see town website for details), with 8 concerts on tap beginning 7/11.

–         The previous Topstone playground proposal has been updated, and has been raised by approx. $10k.

–         The request for programming suggestions, discussed in our last meeting, was sent out in various forms and, thus far, has generated 9 emails and a total of 22 programming ideas.
