We examined the position of the existing driveway which is in the location agreed to in the subdivision approval. The location has excellent sight lines in both directions. We then walked to the south along mountain road to the staked location of the alternative driveway location requested by Mr. Keillor. I measured off 250 feet to the South as this was the direction of restricted sight lines. In that direction the road bends to the east and is substantially obscured by a high shoulder contour, some 8’to10’ in height, topped by the historic stone wall. In order for the requested driveway location to work, thus land contour would have to be extensively re-graded, removing large quantities of earth. In its current condition, the revised driveway location would not comply with the regulations.
I inquired what was motivating the desire to change from the approved location with very little additional investment, to the new location with a considerable earthworks and expense arising therefrom. It was mentioned by Mr. Keeler that he was trying to see if a fourth a lot could be placed the subdivision were the driveway to be moved. It should be noted that if the applicant seeks to make such a lot change, which is fundamental to the approved Application #504 layout, this would require a new application to the commission.
We adjourned at 9:25 a.m.
