Redding Safety Committee Meeting
Minutes
Thursday, June 2, 2016
Redding Town Hall

The meeting was called to order at 4:06 p.m.

Present:   Mark O’Donnell (co-chair), Jeff Hanson, Krista Gramer (secretary), Tom Feroleto, Rob Blick, Willie Roman (4:09)

Minutes of the March 3, 2016 meeting were read and approved as submitted.  (O’Donnell/Hanson)

Old Business

  • Willie Roman indicated the security enhancements and upgrades for the Community Center are currently pending input from the First Selectman regarding engineering of the project.  Krista Gramer will follow up with First Selectman regarding projected timeline.
  • The status of the necessity of fire extinguishers in the science classrooms pending follow up from Vicki Cram.
  • Update on the insufficient parking lot lighting at RES by the gym and parent drop-off areas is pending discussion with Vicki Cram and Ken Larkin.

New Business
Town Hall:
Willie Roman reported that the broken walkway resulting from the septic repair in front of Town Hall has since been repaired.

Jeff Hanson reported that the Town rack body truck is unsafe to drive and needs to be taken off service immediately; the door is not holding shut properly and it is unable to be repaired.  The issue has been reported to Steve Gniadek, Finance Director, with discussion of replacement.  The safety committee has deemed the vehicle unsafe for use effective immediately.  Alternate arrangements need to be made for transporting equipment.

Krista Gramer reported two injuries since March:
-An EMT/volunteer firefighter sustained injury to left shoulder during a fire/emergency call, fell on property that was unlit – Krista Gramer will contact the Fire Chief from Redding Ridge Fire House regarding the policy of carrying light source, i.e. flashlight, when called for duty.

-A volunteer firefighter head/back injury from a slip and fall on stairs during training exercise – non-preventable.

Board of Education:
Injuries for schools were not reported at this time.
