CALL TO ORDER by T. Johnston at 7:01pm
Consent Agenda
Motion: move to approve the September 21, 2021 Region 9 Board of Education Regular Meeting, September 30, 2021 Region 9 Board of Education Special Meeting, and October 14, 2021 Region 9 Board of Education Special Meeting (D’Agostino, Graziano). Approved. Unanimous.
Motion: move to approve the First Reading of Policy #5131 on Hazing & Bullying (Graziano, O’Brien). (Upon discussion)
The Board discussed possible revisions of the policy. Revisions will be discussed with the Policy committee. M. D’Agostino suggested in the future to make note of specific changes from the original policy to the revised policy to further discussion.
STUDENT COMMENT
A student representative from JBHS spoke about two students that got accepted into the National Merit Scholarship program. The debate team has begun competing and great conversations/debates are taking place. In the athletics department, a freshman swimmer broke a record in the 100-meter fly competition. The record has been held since 1999. The cross-country team has completed the season undefeated. The JBHS “Beauty and the Beast” theater production is taking place in the upcoming weeks. Homecoming dance will not be taking place in the fall, but a spring dance will hopefully take place. A homecoming bonfire/pep rally is in the planning stages for fall. J. McKinnon offered to teach the students how to play cricket at homecoming events.

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS
Course Enrollments-Numbers are steady, similar to March. Honors chemistry and science enrollment overall has high numbers. AP chemistry is not running. Latin I is taking place with 14 students. Discussion followed regarding course offerings.
S.Pierson-Ugol-The first Climate committee meeting took place. Goals, data, and parent feedback were discussed.
DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION
Motion: move to amend item C to “Recess to Executive Session to Discuss Attorney/Client Privileged Communication to discuss vendor contract negotiations”. (Johnston, Denny). Approved. Unanimous.
A. Bequest for the Music Department-$1000 donation has been made to the JBHS music department.
Motion: move for Region 9 to accept $1000 from the Estate of Richard Costello to be deposited into the JBHS music fund. (D’Agostino, Williams). Unanimous.
B. Maintenance on Boilers-a contract beginning in June 2021 was signed to maintain the boiler.
C. Recess to Executive Session to Discuss Attorney/Client Privileged Communication
Motion: move into Executive Session to Discuss Attorney/Client Privileged Communication to discuss vendor contract negotiations. (T. Johnston, D’Agostino) Unanimous.
