MINUTES
Present: Amy Atamian, Todd Eubanks, Dave Pattee, Kirby Klump, Vanessa McPherson and Charles Cilo.
Also, Present: Calos Pavia and Eugene Burke of Veolia. Katherine Stauffer and Dawn Peck.
Amy Atamian called the meeting to order at 7:32 PM
ITEM 1: APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE May 19, 2021 MEETING
Motion: Approve the minutes of the May 19, 2021 meeting as amended. T. Eubanks, motion. K. Klump, second. C. Cilo abstained. Approved unanimous.
ITEM 2: REPORT FROM VEOLIA WATER PLANT MANAGERS
Health and Safety
Veolia Water monthly safety training topics conducted in May 2021 included:
• Safety Showers and Eyewashes
• Hazardous Substances: Incidental Spill Response
Annual inspection of fire alarm system and extinguishers was completed.
This project has completed 21 years with no safety incidents.
Noteworthy Operational Information/Maintenance and PM
• Wasted 49,729 gallons of sludge3 to the GBT
• 19,500 gallons of sludge was removed from the waste tank for disposal
• Weekly power washing of drum screen #2
• Pump station pumped out by Pupper Septic
• Inorganic recovery dip for both membranes completed
• Mulvaney Mechanical completed spring service to HVAC system
• Annual fire alarm system and extinguishers inspection competed 5-26
Regulatory and Compliance
There were no permit violations for Redding in the month of May 2021
Alarms

There were no CBYD requests for the month of April 2021
Points for Discussion
• Kaeser blower inspection was completed
• Mulvaney plumbing completed the spring service of the HVAC system
• Quarterly aquatic toxicity and sludge analysis was completed
• Poly Aluminum Chloride was ordered
o 1,000 gallons ordered
• Emergency generator battery replacement
o Still waiting for updated quote from generator company (Kinsley)
o Commission suggested that quotes be obtained from more than just one company to get best price since generator is no longer under warranty.
• Recycle pump wet well fault
o Pump #3 is continuously tripping.
o Staff from the Naugatuck plant is coming to look.
• Door lock replacement was completed
• Grinder replacement
• Plant water pump
o Staff from the Naugatuck plant is coming to look.
• Access point to Norwalk River for CT DEEP has been cleared for passage.
o The Town of Redding Highway Department cleared the brush for DEEP sampling.
o C. Pavia explained the sampling procedures.
Other Discussion
• D. Pattee asked if the new blower has been replaced yet. It was replaced on Monday with a defective unit Kaeser will be returning to the plant to try and figure out what is wrong and possibly replace. The commission all voiced concern that the blower should be completely replaced as starting out with a defective unit is not a good thing.
• C. Pavia stated that the alkalinity levels in the plant are very good. He stated it could be due to some of the cleaning products used at the Redding Beer Company if they have cleaned their tanks recently.
• V. McPherson asked if the plant water and recirculation pumps have been looked at yet. The answer was no.
• C. Pavia reported that the capital planning module is almost ready to be rolled out in the coming month. Once, it is, training will commence.
• NIC still does not have remote access to the SCADA system. No update.
• A. Atamian expressed concern regarding the equipment that needs repair right now.

Other Discussion:
V. McPherson and C. Cilo planned a day to go down to the WWTP to get a tour. As new members of the commission and because of COVID-19, they have not been able to do that yet, they will coordinate a date and time to go together.
