Minutes

Present:  Gerry Casiello, Chair; Ben Gordon, Ted Ogonek, Michael Hoffman, Amy Atamian, and alternates Matthew Lecher, Gary Miyashiro, and Paul Scholl

Also present: ZEO Aimee Pardee and one member of the public

All regular members were present and seated.

Mr. Casiello called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm

REGULAR MEETING

  1. 2. Motion: move that the Redding Zoning Commission approve the minutes of the October 8, 2014 Public Hearing as submitted.  Ogonek, Hoffman.  Approved 4-0-1.  Ms. Atamian abstained
  1. Motion: move that the Redding Zoning Commission approve the minutes of the October 8, 2014 meeting as submitted.  Ogonek, Hoffman.  Approved 4-0-1. Ms. Atamian abstained.
  1. Application #14-23Z-Owner: Town of Redding Elementary School, 33 Lonetown Road  – (Map #21 & Lot #13) – Applicant: John McCleary, 67 Picketts Ridge Road – In accordance with Section 5.11.2 of the Redding Zoning Regulations application for a Limited Duration Special Use Permit for a 5K Road Race “The Great Turkey Escape” to be held at the Redding Elementary School, 33 Lonetown Road  on Thursday November 27, 2014 starting at 7:00am and ending approximately 9:30am.  Previously held on November 28, 2013 at the West Redding Fire House, 306 Umpawaug Road.   

There was no further discussion.

Motion: move that the Redding Zoning Commission approve Application #14-23Z as reviewed. Atamian, Hoffman. Approved unanimously.

  1. 5. DISCUSSION:
  2. Commission officers:  Mr. Casiello noted that the Commission has not had a vice-chairman since Mr. Ventricelli resigned.  He suggested that election of officers be held at the next meeting.
  1.  ZEO initiated: potential amendments to the Redding Zoning Regulations

Mrs. Pardee provided a fresh copy of the current Redding Zoning Regulations and a draft set of suggested changes, amendments or adjustments to the regulations.  She summarized the type of changes being suggested.  The changes will be discussed at future meetings.

  1.  Historic Review Committee:  Mr. Ogonek had questions about the Historic Review Committee, specifically with regard to an abandoned property in his neighborhood.  Mr. Casiello noted that the Committee operates independently of the Zoning Commission.  Mr. Lecher represents the Zoning Commission on the Committee.

Motion: move to adjourn the meeting. Gordon, Atamian. Approved unanimously.

PUBLIC HEARING

Mr. Casiello called the Public Hearing to order at 7:30 pm.

Ms. Atamian read the call of the meeting.

Motion: move to accept the call of the meeting.  Hoffman, Ogonek. Approved unanimously.

Mr. Casiello noted that the public hearing was required due to the change of venue for the event. The event coordinator, John McCleary, noted that he RES/RCC (Redding Elementary School/Redding Community Center) venue will provide access to the gym and bathrooms during the event.  He added that there is sufficient parking at RES, RCC, and the adjacent Lonetown Manor field.  Three policemen will be present for the event, and Police Chief Fuchs has reviewed and approved the plan. He also had a letter of approval from the Health Department. The Redding Planning Commission had no objections to the plan.

Motion: move to close the Public Hearing.  Hoffman, Ogonek.  Approved unanimously.

The Public Hearing was closed at 7:35 pm.
