2. Application #21-05Z – 186 Blackrock Turnpike (Assessor’s Map and Lot #23-72)- Owner: Redding Fire District No. 1: Agent: Frank Scinto: Chipman Mazzucco Emerson LLC, , 44 Old Ridgebury Road, Ste. 320, Danbury, CT 06810– In accordance with Redding Zoning Regulations Section 5.2 request for a Site Plan approval to demolish the existing circa 1927 Firehouse and construct a new Firehouse. To receive: Set Public Hearing date.

The Chairman noted the presence of the applicant’s agents and asked for an introduction to the application.

Frank Scinto, the attorney for Redding Fire District #1, explained that the fire company hopes to demolish their existing firehouse, which dates to 1927, and replace the building. He noted that, although the property is non-conforming in terms of lot area, the fire company has recently acquired two parcels from neighbors that have increased the size of the property.

Jeff Mose, the project architect, also spoke to the commission. He also noted the original construction date of the existing firehouse and stated that the building is built mostly on fill and the existing foundation is not up to current code. He said that the fire company had explored finding a new location for a firehouse but they were not able to identify a feasible location so, after several years of research, the decision was made to attempt to replace the existing building.  Mr. Mose showed the commission the floor plan of the proposed new firehouse and explained the use of the space. He showed the commission a video simulation of the view of the proposed firehouse from all angles.

On the motion of Ms. Atamian and the second of Mr. Ogonek, the commission voted unanimously to accept application 21-05Z and set a public hearing date for May 12, 2021.
