Swim Lessons at Topstone Park

Group swim lessons and private swim lessons are offered at Topstone Park.  Lessons are taught, whenever possible, by certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructors (WSI).  Our WSI use the instructional levels defined by the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program.

Group Swim Lesson Sessions

This years schedule of 2 week sessions are usually Mon-Thur and are indicated on the lesson forms below.

Group Swim Lesson Registration & Testing

Preschool swim lessons are for 3-4 year olds only without their parents.  Level 1-5 swim lessons are for children 5 years old and up on the first day of class. Registration forms must be submitted to the Park & Recreation office by Tuesday, June 26, 2018  by 12:00 PM for processing.  There is NO ONLINE REGISTRATION for swim lessons.

Classes require 2 participants to run. Class size is limited to a maximum of 6 per instructor for beginner and preschool lessons.  Class sizes for Level 2-5 will be no greater than 8 students per instructor.  Classes may be larger if we have extra instructors but the ration will remain no greater than 6:1 and 8:1 respectively.

Private Swim Lessons

Private Swim lessons are offered Mondays -Thursdays following the same 6 session schedule with start times running at 10:00am or 10:45am. If we do not fill all the assigned slots we may need to adjust lesson times within these times to fit our instructor schedules.  You can also pick up the form at the office and at Topstone Park. Private swim lessons will on a first come first served basis separate from our group lesson registration process.

Lessons are $100 for four private lessons and $150 ($75 each) for four semi-private lessons.  We will accept one payment of either $100 or $150 for each slot reserved. This means if you choose the semi-private option you must find a partner and sign up together.

Cancellations/Makeups and Credits

Make ups for rained out classes will be on Fridays. Credits will be issued if no make up class can be held.  No credits will be issued for missed classes.  Light rain or drizzle does not automatically cancel classes.  If there is a question as to whether class will be held or not, call the Park and Recreation cancellation line at 938-5036 and select voice mail option #3. Whenever possible the voicemail will have cancellations listed at least 30 minutes prior to the class time. However, decisions are often made earlier and sometimes classes are cancelled at the park.

Topstone Park Schedule

• Topstone Park Beach will be open for swimming on Memorial Day weekend–Sat/Sun/Mon.
• The park will be open on a “weekends only” schedule 11 am to 7 pm until June 13
• Beginning June 14th, Topstone Park will be open daily as follows:

Weekend hours:  11 am – 7:00 pm
Weekday hours: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm

September
Topstone Park Beach will be closed end of August for a few days for the opening of school.
Topstone Park will be reopened Labor Day Weekend (Sat/Sun/Mon) from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm

Swimming in the Redding Area

There are some great local places residents can swim when Topstone Park is closed in the off season.

The Wilton Family Y has two pools, a swim team and swim lessons year round. For more information contact the Y at 203-762-8384.

The Ridgefield Park and Recreation Center offers swim lessons, fitness and swimming year round at 203-431-2755

The Town of Weston offers swimming in their town pool located at the Middle School on weekdays in the early morning and late evening hours and on weekends at reasonable rates for non-residents. Call 203-222-2655 for more information.
