Public Hearing and Revised Budget Calendar

The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously at a regular meeting on Monday, March 16th, to extend the Town’s annual budget process by 30 days, pursuant to Governor Lamont’s Executive order #7 D, culminating with a referendum on the 1st Tuesday in June (June 2). Therefore, the Board of Finance public hearing originally scheduled for Thursday March 19th will take place on Thursday April 16th, 2020 at 7:30 pm at the Redding Community Center.

We felt, for a number of reasons, that this was the most prudent action to take at present.

With the upheaval in the daily lives of residents and the rapid escalation of this health emergency and its financial impacts, the view of the budget may be very different 30 days from now. I’m always eager to engage technology, and surely we could have done so, but we also felt that it would be asking too much of our residents to jump on board a virtual public hearing process at a time when their concerns lie elsewhere.

No changes to the proposed budget as published in the public notice will be made prior to your public hearing. To repeat, the public hearing is postponed, not cancelled.

We will take this time to provide you, the public, with more information about our proposed budgets and let you know how you can participate in the coming virtual meetings. I do hope that by April 16th we will be able to hold our meetings as we always have, together with the public. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office.
