Redding Health Department Update 11/02/2021

Update from Redding Health Department
November 2, 2021

Pfizer Pediatric Vaccine for Ages 5 Through 11 Years

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) independent advisory group will meet today and tomorrow (November 2nd & 3rd ) to issue its recommendations related to the Pfizer pediatric vaccine. The CDC is then expected to accept the panel’s recommendations.

A pediatric vaccination clinic is scheduled for Tuesday November 16 from 1-6pm at the Redding Elementary School for ages 5 to 11. The pediatric vaccine is a two-shot series with the second shot being administered at least 3 weeks after the first. The clinic will only be for the 5-11 age group because the pediatric vaccine is different from the vaccine used for adults and adolescents.

Redding COVID Vaccinations

Redding will continue to run Vax Van clinics every Sunday through November 21st at the Redding Community Center from 1-4pm. All 3 brands of vaccine will be available for first and second doses, and boosters. No appointment is needed.

COVID Booster Shots

The following groups are eligible for a booster shot at 6 months or more after their initial series:

• 65 years and older
• Age 18 who live in long-term care settings
• Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
• Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings

For individuals who received a J & J vaccine, booster shots are recommended for all who are 18 and older who were vaccinated two or more months ago. This means that all individuals who received a J & J vaccine should receive a booster.

Mixing & Matching

Both the FDA and CDC support individuals to receive a booster dose that is a different vaccine type than they originally received for their primary series if they choose.

Other Vaccination Providers

Just about every pharmacy (see list below) in the area as well as Costco, Walmart, and Big Y carry the COVID-19 vaccines. Many from Redding have received their vaccinations at these locations. To set up an appointment you can go directly to a clinic’s website or use this vaccine finder: https://covidvaccinefinder.ct.gov/?query=06896 and sign up online. You will need to bring your vaccination card or documentation demonstrating your vaccination record.
